Quality Health Strategies Announces Merger with Masspro
Easton, MD – Quality Health Strategies (QHS) today announced the merger of Massachusetts Peer Review Organization, Inc. (Masspro), the Waltham, MA-based federally designated Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Massachusetts into its organization, effective July 1, 2009. QHS is the parent company of the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care and the Delmarva Foundation of the District of Columbia, the QIOs for Maryland and the District of Columbia, respectively.
“We are excited about the next chapter in our corporate history,” said Dr. Roger C. Merrill, QHS’ Board Chairman. “Masspro operates in an attractive region with a growing economy. It has great employees and an outstanding network of business partners and stakeholders. Masspro also has a strong record in terms of customer service and a sound, conservative balance sheet. These strengths, added to those of QHS and its subsidiary organizations, will improve our collective ability to provide innovative services to more customers.”
“We believe the deal is a win-win for our employees, business partners and stakeholders” said Dr. Francis Moore, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Masspro. “We spent many months extensively exploring our strategic options. We think the advantages offered by QHS are the most compelling for our customers and employees.”
“The strategic value of the Masspro merger makes economic sense and will result in increased efficiencies and cost savings, enhanced revenues, growth potential and market expansion for the three QIOs,” said Merrill.
The Masspro merger aligns with QHS’ vision to be a nationally recognized leader in quality improvement through leadership, services and resources for improving health. While no immediate operational or management changes have been announced, simplifying the ownership structure is expected to lead to more efficient marketing and provision of services for the QIOs.
